ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY THE PRESIDENT OF COOPERATIVE FEDERATION OF NIGERIA (CFN), MR. ORIYOMI AYEOLA, AT THE 5TH CONGRESS OF THE COOPERATIVE FEDERATION OF NIGERIA HELD ON 7TH NOVEMBER, 2017.
I am overwhelmed with joy for the support you have given me and for the confidence reposed in me today by electing me as President and for the election of other executives of our National Apex body-Cooperative Federation of Nigeria.
Firstly, let me use this opportunity to thank you all for making this congress a successful one. From the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to individual cooperators who have come from far and near; let me express my unreserved appreciation for your great efforts.
On my honour and on behalf of other elected officers, I want to assure you that by the end of our tenure, we would have taken the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria a step higher than what it is today.
Specifically, as mentioned in my manifesto, we shall on assuming office, embark on:
- Unifying all stakeholders as we believe very sincerely that it is only in unity that progress can be made. The task of reconciling and uniting CFN will remain the fulcrum upon which our administration will rest. Let me use this medium to call on all of you to join us in this very important task.
- We shall revisit the CFN bye-law and sponsor a bill for the review of the Cooperative Societies’ Law of Nigeria.
- Identify and embark on programs that will make communication between and amongst cooperators easier and promote welfare of members through income-generating activities.
- Attention will be placed also on youth cooperative.
Our work starts from now and I have no illusion about the enormity of the task at hand, however, with your support, I have strong belief that our future is bright.
In conclusion, I must not end this speech without acknowledging and saluting the very great leadership roles of my immediate predecessor in office, Engr. Jubril Bala Abuja. A great leader and father for nurturing CFN to its present enviable status. Sir, we salute your vision and doggedness for us to tap from your fountain of knowledge and experience.
Distinguished cooperators, gentlemen of the Press, ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you all for listening.
