On behalf of the President-in-Council and the Board of Lagos State Cooperative Federation (LASCOFED), I join the leadership of Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives to welcome you all to the Head Quarters of Lagos State Cooperative Movement on this occasion of 2017 International Cooperative Day celebration.
LASCOFED is indeed pleased and proud to host the 2017 International Cooperative Day in this new ultra modern office complex and multipurpose hall which is the result of our working together.
I thank God Almighty for this privilege and for making us to be here today.
The last one year has been very eventful. Shortly after the last International Cooperative Day, we commissioned this building. The fortunes and frontiers of cooperative societies continue to increase in spite of the economic challenges in the country. To all our cooperative leaders, I say, well done and pray that our societies shall continue to grow from strength to strength.
I wish to use this medium to directly appreciate the collective resolve of all cooperators at the last Congress that I lead the Cooperative Movement for another 4years. The peaceful conduction of the Congress and election of members of the President-in-Council is a true reflection of the Cooperative spirit. On behalf of the President-in-Council and Board of Directors, I thank you most sincerely for reposing your trust and confidence in us.
As a commitment to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through Inclusion, we have continued to promote people-centred programs and products at the apex level of our structure for the benefit of our members and humanity at large.
As a federation, our activities in the last 3years have been geared towards this year’s theme, Inclusion. This is because we believe strongly that members are as important as capital, if not more, in cooperative management and governance. They must be carried along in decision-making. We encourage active participation of members at all levels of governance and we are committed to membership drive as a tool for sustainability for the cooperative sector. We also support our women and the youth in achieving their potentials.
Dear cooperative leaders, we are at the moment putting finishing touches to a Memorandum of Understanding between LASCOFED and GLOBACOM for the provision of a Closed-User-Group (CUG) communication system consisting of voice, SMS and data at a cooperative-friendly monthly rental. This we believe will ease our communication challenges and add value to our system. The product is to be known as LASCOFED CONNECT will be launched very soon. I therefore urge you all to embrace this product so as to maximize the benefit therein.
The Chairman, Honourable Commissioner, Special Adviser, Ladies and Gentlemen; on behalf of the Cooperative Movement, I wish to congratulate His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on the 50th Year Anniversary Celebration of Lagos State. I am appreciative of His Excellency for his actions geared towards providing better enabling environment for cooperative societies to flourish in the state. We are particularly grateful for the review of the cooperative societies’ law, which I believe will enable cooperative societies to function better in Lagos State. I pray that God Almighty will see him through this divine assignment bestowed upon him.
Once again, I welcome you all and wish you happy celebrations.
Mr. Oriyomi Ayeola
